HEALTH SPAS: In the coastal regions many areas offer special mud treatments from the local lakes. These have become famous for their healing and youth giving qualities, attracting many tourists all year round. In the mountain regions, Bulgaria boasts hundreds of natural water springs. A great many of these are thermal with temperatures reaching up to 60 degrees, with a wide range of mineral qualities. Towns such as Bania, near the ski resort of Bansko and Velingrad offer traditional spas, some dating back as far as the Roman Times, where bathing and other health treatments are available. As with most activities in Bulgaria, these health Spas cost 20-30% less than those of similar locations in Europe. |

SKI RESORTS:
Bansko was recently called the "New St. Moritz" by a leading English newspaper. An excellent description. Bansko resort lies near the town of Blagoevgrad and is therefore close to the main thoroughfares to Greece and Southern Europe. Before being discovered by tourists Bansko was a sleepy traditional village at the foot of the Pirin Mountains Now, despite substantial growth, the charm of the old village survives and building development is sympathetic to the original architecture. During the day magnificent new Gondola lift carry skiers to the peaks where they can enjoy the finest of facilities that Europe has to offer. |
